About the Program
Primary Education Program is an undergraduate program within the Faculty of Education Department of Basic Education.
The aim of the Primary Education Program; To train prospective classroom teachers who are contemporary, embracing democracy, equipped with technology, believing in the guidance of science, constructive, creative and productive.
The Primary Education Program is an interdisciplinary field of study based on Science and Social sciences. Compulsory field knowledge, teaching profession knowledge, general culture and practice lessons are included in the Primary Education Program. In addition, students take elective courses. The courses are carried out both theoretically and practically. Theoretical courses in the program are given in technology supported environments. The applied courses are carried out in two semesters under the supervision of the Application Instructor and the Application Teacher in cooperation with the Faculty of Education, Provincial Directorate of National Education and Application Primary Schools.

Objectives
- The goal of this program is to educate individuals, who would be sensitive towards people, society and the nature, who would be aware of the impact of their individual and professional developments to society, who would be competent in their field and who would have ethical values, who would perceive continual improvement as the philosophy of their lives, who would embrace scientific thought, who would regard public policy, who would use information technology effectively, who could think creatively and critically, who would have acquired aesthetical sensitivities, as elementary school teachers.
- Graduates are able to use Turkish language appropriately and effectively and have skills to be able to communicate with pupils effectively; Comprehend related concepts and relationships between them based on their acquired competencies in primary education; acquire sufficient pedagogical content knowledge in primary education; know and apply contemporary teaching, measurement and assessment methods and techniques.

Degree and Level Awarded
The program is a 4-year program consisting of 240 ECTS credits. The program, Bologna process "in higher education EQF Top Frame (QF-EHEA)" 's described in the "First Level (First Cycle)" and "Turkey Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ)" in shareholders' defined "Level 6" set for qualifications ECTS credit requirements and level qualifications; it also provides the "Level 6" qualifications defined in the "European Lifelong Learning Qualifications Framework (EQF-LLL)".
When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are met, a Bachelor's degree in Classroom Teaching is achieved.
Admission Requirements
The student who want to enroll in this department, have to complete processes which determined by university's academic and judicial statute and have to achieve exams. The student who started his/her education in domestic or abroad, can make application for lateral transfer. Acceptance of students are examine considering each student's conditions and application's degree before season starting and evaluate peculiarly. Graduation Requirements
Students are required to take at least 240 ECTS and have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 in order to graduate from this program.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Formal and non-formal learning, including training existing accepted procedures, the development is still at the beginning stages in Turkey and comprehensive at the national level on this issue and there is also an adequate legal framework. However, within the framework of institutional autonomy, there are also a number of institutional level practices for the assignment of loans that allow exemption from certain program requirements based on RPL. In these studies, which are applied especially at a comprehensive level, students who have knowledge and skills in areas such as foreign language and computer use before entering the university are subjected to an exam and students who are successful at a certain level by the program they are accepted are considered to be exempted from the relevant parts of the curriculum. However, RPL is also applied to students, including abroad, who wish to transfer to another institution that is equal to or above their field of study. In such cases, students may be exempted from courses that are the same or similar to the courses they have taken and passed, based on the approval of the program's orientation board.

Employment Opportunities
Students who complete the Elementary Education program are awarded the “Bachelors Degree Diploma from the Faculty of Education at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University”. The graduates can work as classroom teachers in grades 1 through 4 of the public or private elementary schools, affiliated with the Ministry of Education. They can also proceed to obtain graduate degrees and work in academic positions at the universities.
