The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences houses Food, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology and Computer laboratories, while the Faculty of Health Sciences houses the Nursing Department Skills laboratories. Our laboratories, which enable our students to put the theoretical knowledge they acquire in their courses into practice, also provide our academic staff with the infrastructure they need for their academic work and research.
DEPARTMENT OF FOOD ENGINEERING LABORATORIES
Research and development activities and course applications are carried out in our laboratories serving the Department of Food Engineering within our University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. Covering an indoor area of approximately 250.00 m2, this unit consists of the Food R&D, Microbiology and Chemistry Laboratories. These laboratories are equipped to support practical work for the Food Engineering undergraduate program as well as graduate thesis studies and scientific research.

NURSING DEPARTMENT PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TRAINING LABORATORY
Professional skills laboratories are vital in equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to protect individuals and society. Enabling students who are just beginning their nursing education to understand the profession and to provide more systematic, more informed and more scientific care to patients is possible only by recreating a genuine hospital environment. The Nursing Department Professional Skills Training Laboratory is essential so that students can perform the fundamental practices of the profession in a safe environment before coming into contact with patients. Students learn care practices in the Professional Skills Training Laboratory without any risk to adult and paediatric patients, and once they have gained proficiency they are able to provide high-quality, safe patient care.
Divided into four groups of ten, students repeat all practices using peer assessment together with the instructor and have the opportunity to perform each procedure individually. Outside laboratory hours as well, they can repeat skills training as often as they need without time pressure and thereby become autonomous practitioners.
The laboratory contains four patient care manikins modelled on human anatomy. These manikins give students the opportunity to perform, in a realistic manner, the basic interventions specific to the care of healthy and sick individuals, such as hygienic care practices, oral and parenteral medication administration (ophthalmic, otic, rectal and vaginal, as well as intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous administration, etc.), range-of-motion exercises and nursing practices relating to all body systems.
Arm manikins with veins modelled on human vascular anatomy are also available. Filled with artificial blood or fluid for visual realism, these manikins are suitable for training in intravenous injection and intravenous infusion. In addition, there are manikins for intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular injection, wound care (ostomy, surgical bandaging, dressing, pressure ulcer care), enema and urinary catheterization, as well as for cardiac and respiratory system assessment. All manikins are available in four sets, ready for use by four groups of students.
With the patient simulation manikin, one of the most important pieces of equipment in the Nursing Department Professional Skills Training Laboratory, students can experience how to approach a patient through realistic scenarios.
In this way, when students encounter an adult or paediatric patient in a real hospital environment, they can move forward with confidence, secure in the knowledge that they have already performed all of these procedures, and become nurses who avoid practice errors.
