The land, which hosted many educational institutions during the process of Ottoman modernization and belonged to the Sultan Bayezid II Veli Foundation, was allocated to the İlim Yayma Vakfı (Foundation for the Propagation of Knowledge) for the establishment of a university. Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University was established in 2010 by the İlim Yayma Vakfı as a foundation university subject to the provisions of Law No. 2547 on Higher Education concerning foundation higher education institutions. Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University now serves in this very place where Mehmed Âkif studied and later taught. The dining hall of Mehmed Âkif and his friends is used today as the Office of the Rectorate of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, and the National Anthem in its entirety, along with a large portrait of Âkif, adorns the area above and around the inner door.
