Course Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with a theoretical foundation regarding Learning Disabilities and to enable them to accurately assess individuals' developmental characteristics and neurological processes. Students are expected to comprehend screening and identification processes from early childhood onwards, identify difficulties experienced in academic areas (reading, writing, mathematics), and plan evidence-based intervention techniques and lesson adaptations. The course aims to equip students with professional competencies to execute multidisciplinary teamwork, the Response to Intervention (RTI) Model, and family-centered guidance processes.
Course Content
This course covers the formation process of learning, the definition and types of Learning Disabilities, and the educational, psychological, medical, and neurological factors playing a role in their emergence, along with theoretical approaches explaining Learning Disabilities, early signs in the 3-6 age group, medical/developmental/educational screening and diagnostic methods, and prevalence rates. It addresses measures supporting academic success in the classroom, instructional planning, the Response to Intervention model, and team teaching/collaboration. It includes learning disabilities in reading-writing and mathematics, intervention techniques aimed at developing these skills, and guidance processes for the families of children with learning disabilities.
