Course Objective

Demonstrate the interrelation and connection between education and sociology that cannot be handled independently of the society in which they live. To raise awareness about the importance of the relationship between them. To enable students to recognize the basic sociological concepts, to discuss the contributions of sociology to the field of education and the sociological problems that are reflected in the field of education and to discuss the solutions to these problems. To analyze the Turkish Education System with this approach

Course Content

Basic concepts of sociology; Society, social structure, social phenomenon, social event, etc .; pioneers of sociology, Ibn Khaldun, Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, E. Durkheim, M. Weber et al. and views of education basic sociological theories, functionalism structuralists symbolic interactionism conflict theory, critical theory, phenomenology and ethnometodology, sociological education, social processes socialization, social stratification, social mobility social change and education; social institutions, family, religion, economy, politics and education; The development of sociology and the sociology of education in Turkey, Ziya Gokalp, Ismail Hakki Baltacıoğlu, Mumtaz Turhan et al. culture and education, social cultural moral system and community as a community

  5. Knows the factors affecting social stratification and social mobility, explains the inequalities in education.

  8. Examines the school as a social institution and the basic social functions of the school from a sociological perspective.
