Software Engineering Internship Implementation Principles

ISTANBUL SABAHATTIN ZAIM UNIVERSITY
FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND NATURAL SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING INTERNSHIP IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES

1. PURPOSE and SCOPE

1.1. The purpose of the software engineering internship is to enable students to take an active role in processes such as software analysis and design, application development, software testing and software project management, which they
have studied in their courses throughout their education.

1.2. These implementation principles have been drawn up, in accordance with the University's internship directive and the Faculty's internship implementation principles,
in order to regulate matters specific to the department such as the number and duration of internships, the periods in which internships may be completed and the types of organizations at which they may be carried out.

2. IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES

2.1. The departmental internship duration is 30 working days. How working days are calculated is set out in the University's internship directive. The periods in which the internship may be carried out are determined by the Internship Implementation Principles of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

2.2. The department has 1 compulsory internship, in which the application development and project management internships are carried out together. Students completing the internship are expected both to learn the processes a software project goes through from its very first stage and to gain knowledge and experience in the software development/coding stage.

2.3. Responsibility for finding an internship placement rests primarily with the student. Internships may only be carried out at companies where the software development process is applied from start to finish. At least 1 Software/Computer/Electrical and Electronics Engineer experienced in software development must be employed at the organization where the internship is carried out. Internship placements are accepted only if they are deemed appropriate by the Departmental Internship Committee following the internship application.

2.4. Every student who has identified the organization at which they will complete their internship must first fill in the Internship Application Form and the Social Security (SGK) Form and have them approved first by the organization where the internship will take place and then by the Departmental Internship Committee.

2.5. The intern records the work carried out during the internship in the Internship Logbook. Students may, if they wish, prepare the internship logbook in English. However, the internship committee may request that the language of the logbook be changed where it deems this necessary. (All documents other than the internship logbook must be submitted in Turkish.) Internship documents shall be prepared in Turkish. Logbooks for internships completed abroad may be filled in in English. Every page of the Internship Logbook is approved by the authorized person at the internship placement (the authorized person must be a Software, Computer or Electrical and Electronics Engineer). The first and last pages of the internship logbook must be approved and stamped by the authorized person.

2.6. Students who have completed their internship submit the Internship Logbook and the Intern Evaluation Form in a sealed envelope in person on the dates specified by the Departmental Internship Committee, and at that time the student defends the completed internship orally before the committee. If the student does not present the internship defense, the internship is cancelled.

2.7. The total internship period may be divided into two parts, one of which must be at least 10 working days, to be completed at different organizations and on different dates in accordance with the implementation principles.

3. OTHER PROVISIONS

3.1. These internship implementation principles enter into force as of the date on which they are approved by the "Faculty Executive Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Istanbul S. Zaim University.

3.2. The internship implementation principles may be revised and applied upon the proposal of the Departmental Board and the approval of the "Faculty Executive Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, provided that they remain in accordance with the Istanbul S. Zaim University Undergraduate Education Internship Directive.
