Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Internship Implementation Principles

ISTANBUL SABAHATTIN ZAIM UNIVERSITY
FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND NATURAL SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE and ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
INTERNSHIP IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES

1. PURPOSE and SCOPE

1.1. The purpose of the internship in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design is to reinforce the theoretical knowledge and experience students acquire during their studies, to develop the skills and experience they have gained, and to enable them to identify the responsibilities and relationships at the workplaces where they will complete their internships, together with the techniques and methods used there.

1.2. These implementation principles have been drawn up, in accordance with the University's internship directive and the Faculty's internship implementation principles, in order to regulate matters specific to the department such as the number and duration of internships, the periods in which internships may be completed and the types of organizations at which they may be carried out.

2. IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES

2.1. The periods in which the internship may be carried out are determined by the Internship Implementation Principles of the Faculty of Engineering.

2.2. The department has 2 compulsory internships: a construction site internship and an office internship.

2.3. As stipulated in the Faculty's implementation principles, internships are carried out during academic holidays. Students who have completed their courses and are in a position to graduate may complete their remaining internships during the academic semester.

2.4. In order to apply for an internship, students must have been registered in the 2nd year or above in the most recent semester of study in the department. For students taking courses irregularly in our department due to horizontal transfer, vertical transfer or similar reasons, the prerequisite for undertaking an internship is met once they have taken at least 1 course from the 2nd year.

2.5. Students who enroll in our department through horizontal transfer, vertical transfer or similar means must submit information on any internships they have previously completed.

2.6. The departmental internship duration is 75 working days. Since the internship is divided into two parts, construction site and office, at least one of them must total 30 days. How working days are calculated is set out in the University's internship directive.

2.7. The suitability of the internship placement is accepted only if it is deemed appropriate by the Internship Committee following the preliminary internship application. The person who will approve the internship logbook must be an architect, an interior architect or a civil engineer.

2.8. The final date permitted for completing the internships and submitting the departmental internship logbook to the departmental internship committees is calculated by adding 1 month to the end of the academic holiday period in which the internship was carried out.

2.9. Students of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design who are enrolled in a double major or minor program in the Department of Architecture are exempt from the Department of Architecture internships.

2.10. Students who have completed the 1st year may undertake an optional voluntary internship; they are required to fill in an internship logbook. Voluntary internships are not counted towards the compulsory internship days and will only be recorded on the transcript.

3. OTHER PROVISIONS

3.1. These internship implementation principles enter into force as of the date on which they are approved by the "Faculty Executive Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Istanbul S. Zaim University.

3.2. The internship implementation principles may be revised and applied upon the proposal of the Departmental Board and the approval of the "Faculty Executive Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, provided that they remain in accordance with the Istanbul S. Zaim University Undergraduate Education Internship Directive.
