About the Program
Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department is a program with 240 ECTS and normally takes 4 academic years, consisting of 8 terms, to graduate from. The curriculum has been prepared in accordance with the National Core Education Program for Nursing which was prepared for the purpose of nationwide standardization of nursing education, with “Regulation of Defining Minimum Conditions for Training Programs of Doctors of Medicine, Nurses, Midwives, Dentists, Veterinaries, Pharmacists, and Architects”, which was published on the official journal numbered 26775 and dated 02.02.2008, and with the criteria of the European Union.
The program which is student centered enables students to be knowledged and skilled in various fields by giving them the possibility of taking selective courses. In addition, students are encouraged and supported to participate in national and international scientific activities and student mobility programs.
Our graduates can serve in many fields of medicine; at health care centers such as public hospitals, university hospitals, private hospitals, policlinics, community health centers, primary care centers, chronic and long term care centers, medical training and research centers, rehabilitation centers, health care, rehabilitation and training centers for children and elderly people, hand surgery centers, nursing homes, dialysis centers, health care units of schools/factories/banks/ municipalities/ private or public organizations.

Program Objectives & Goals
Objectives
- They are employed in preventive, treatment and rehabilitative committees and organizations where they can provide nursing care to meet the health care needs of healthy/sick individuals, families and society, by taking into account professional ethical principles and values in line with contemporary approaches and the nursing process. <p> <i> <b>Performance Indicator:</b> <br>1. 80% of the graduates should be employed as nurses in the field of health care (Hospital, ASM, TSM, CMHC, insurance company, school, workplace, etc.) within one year.</i>
- As a professional member of the healthcare team, they act as researchers, educational leaders and managers by using effective communication skills, evidence-based information and information technologies. <p> <i> <b>Performance Indicators:</b> <br>1. The satisfaction rate of the team members that the graduates work with regarding working with the graduates must be at least 70%, <br>2. At least 10% of the graduates (you can determine this rate by evaluating the current positions your graduates are working in) should be involved in the post-graduation research process, <br>3. 10% of graduates assume managerial positions within five years following graduation, <br>4. 5% of graduates take on educational duties within five years following graduation. </i>
- He continues his personal and professional development with the awareness of lifelong learning. <p> <i> <b>Performance Indicator: </b> <br>1. 10% of graduates continue their graduate education within five years following graduation, <br>2. 5% of graduates continue certificate programs within five years following graduation, <br>3. 50% of the graduates must attend congresses, symposiums, workshops, seminars, courses, etc. within two years following their graduation. </i>

Degree and Level Awarded
This is a first cycle degree program in the science of Nursing (240 ECTS).
You will be awarded, on successful completion of the programme and gain competencies, a degree of Bachelor in Nursing.
Admission Requirements
Students must comply with the legal and academic requirements to access the studies in The Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University according to the process established by the ÖSYM (Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Centre) regulations. Students who have started studies in other universities within or outside of the country may apply for their recognition. The recognition record is unique for each student and therefore the procedure is carried out accordingly before the start of each academic year. More information about general admission requirements can be found in the catalogue of Information on the Institution.
Under an established exchanges program or one approved by the University, exchange students from abroad may be accepted for studies on the courses taught in English. Or, if they are confident in Turkish, they may then enrol any courses, running in Turkish, shown on the Course Structure diagram.
Graduation Requirements
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Recognition of Prior Learning
Procedures to recognise prior learning (RPL), including non-formal and informal learning, is in an early stage of development in Turkey and there is no a comprehensive and enabling legislative framework at the national level in place yet. However, within the institutional autonomy respected there are some implementations at the institutional level for allocating credits towards exemption from some programme requirements on the basis of RPL. This is particularly a wide spread exercise implemented in cases that students, having a certain level of knowledge, skills and competencies in relation to fields such as foreign languages and computer use, prior to admission to the university, are subjected to an examination and if they are found successful to a certain degree required by the programme they have been admitted to, they are exempted from the relevant course units of the course programme. RPL is also practiced for students who wish to transfer their studies to the equal or an upper levels at an another institution including those from abroad in the same or similar fields. In such cases, students, having received some course units in a previous programme they had studied and having been successful, may be exempted from the same or similar course units of the programmes they are admitted to upon the approval the adaptation committees of the programmes.
Such procedures of recognition are also used comprehensively in practice at our university. The general arrangements for the recognition ofsuch implementations are outlined in the relevant section of our Education and Examination Regulations, Rules & Regulations for Graduate Programmes and that of Regulations for Lateral Transfer of Students.
Employment Opportunities
Nurses work in a range of settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centres, health care centers, nursing homes, school health centers, care and education centers for special groups (children, elderly, handicapped etc.), occupational health centers, home care companies, emergency care services at both govermental and private instituitons. They can work as a clinician, educator, manager or coordinator besides working academically at universities.
