Education Policy, Education Model and Mission of the Nursing Programme

To design, conduct, monitor and develop nursing education and training activities in line with national and international health policies, technological developments and needs, and in harmony with the Turkish Qualifications Framework, the National Core Education Programme for Nursing, professional legal regulations and ethical principles. To educate nurses who value change and development, are sensitive, inclined to teamwork, embrace leadership roles, are research-minded and committed to lifelong learning.

Education in the Department of Nursing follows the classical education model. There are theoretical courses, practical courses, laboratory practice and elective courses over a total of eight semesters, two per year. In the spring semester of the fourth year, the internship is run as an elective course. During the internship period, students work in health institutions three days a week as hospital practice for the relevant course. In laboratory and clinical practice courses, the theoretical knowledge learned is put into practice. Active learning methods compatible with the cognitive, affective and behavioural learning domains are used in a learning environment suited to the student's learning. In this process, educators adopt an approach that enables students to become aware of their current and future educational needs, discover their mental and physical abilities, and acquire knowledge, attitudes and behaviours so that they can become professional nurses in their field of work. In professional courses, the nursing models used are the Functional Health Patterns Model, the Activities of Daily Living Model and the Interaction Model in Nursing. In the professional courses of the education programme, the universally valid NANDA-I nursing diagnoses are used in the diagnosis stage of the nursing process. Active learning methods are used in all courses to support students' learning at the cognitive, psychomotor and affective levels.
