PEER MENTORING PROGRAMME
The aim of this programme is to enable first-year (mentee) and third-year (mentor) students in the Department of Nursing of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Health Sciences to communicate with each other, and to help first-year students gain personal/academic/social adjustment, academic development, career development, clinical practice, laboratory work and 21st-century skills (active listening, critical thinking, shared decision-making, teamwork, etc.).
All students who have enrolled in the first year of the Department of Nursing in the fall semester of the relevant academic year are included in the programme as mentees after the programme information meeting. Mentors are selected, according to the evaluation criteria, from among third-year students in the relevant academic year who apply voluntarily. Each mentor is matched with five mentees. According to the stages of the programme, the necessary activities are organized, meetings are held and the results of the reports are evaluated.
Within the scope of the “Peer Mentoring Programme”, an introductory event was held with the programme's responsible teaching staff and the mentees and mentors.
