Dear Students,
The Nursing Programme of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Health Sciences began teaching with its first students in 2013 and gave its first graduates in 2017. Nursing is an applied profession combining science and art; it is a health discipline that provides care in protecting and improving individual and public health, preventing diseases, and in treatment and rehabilitation. Health needs that change with social and global developments make it necessary to transfer evidence-based practice to clinical settings. In today's health system, nursing interventions can be carried out using evidence obtained through research. This highlights the importance of continuing the theory and practice of nursing education with contemporary methods.
The Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Department of Nursing aims to educate students who embrace training qualified human resources; who are equipped with leadership, a multidisciplinary team approach and ethical principles; who can take on the roles and functions of nursing and provide care with a holistic approach; who are innovative, research-minded and critical thinkers able to use contemporary technological knowledge; and who are in harmony with both the values of nursing and the values of the university. The theoretical knowledge in the undergraduate programme is put into practice in hospitals providing health services, in cooperation with contemporary, qualified team members who support nursing education. In particular, the practice of our final-year students within internship programmes makes it easier for them to adapt to working life. Our department carries out activities involving students, including symposia, scientific meetings, and social, cultural and community activities.
