ISLAMIC SCIENCES - THESIS

About the Program

-It consists of seven courses (3 hours per week), graduate seminar, and thesis study (120 ECTS total). The normal duration of this program is 4 semesters; the maximum duration is 6 semesters.

- Students, who completed course phase, submit a thesis proposal with the thesis form to the Institute, before starting their theses. After their proposals approved by the Institute, they can start their theses.

Program Objectives & Goals

Objectives

  1. The aim of the Master Program in Islamic Studies is; providing comprehensive information of The Qur'an's message and the values that Islam put forward. Besides, it is also one of the main goals of the program to gain the competence to conduct scientific research in the branches of science within the scope of the department, to produce solutions toward problems of the field and to develop new interpretations, productivity and participation. Graduates of this program gain not only the knowledge of Islam from the fundamental sources but also the ability and knowledge to develop new interpretations in the face of new situations and events.
  2. The aim of the Master Program in Islamic Studies is to train researchers who are specialized in the science branches of the program and who are capable of developing new interpretations and solutions to these problems by deeply understanding the historical and current problems of the field. It is one of the primary goals of the program that these researchers come to a level where they can grasp and explain the nature of the message of the Qur'an by linking it to the branches of other fields in its history and contemporary world.
Program Learning Outcomes

KNOWLEDGE

  1. To express theological problems by using the Qur'an, Sunnah and other related evidence and produce objective information.
  2. To acquire the ability of express opinions in Islamic studies on international level.
  3. It acquires a perspective on "criticism" mentality in Islamic culture with examples by finding the opportunity to examine and discuss. Learns the "criticism" method applied in the West and makes comparisons between methods.
  4. Understands, evaluates and interprets the process of formation and development of Islamic thought.
  5. Gains ability to understand and evaluate classical and modern sources of Islamic studies.
  6. Learns about the changes, phases and characteristics of the field within a specific timeline.

Admission Requirements

-To be a undergraduate of Theology or Islamic Sciences,

-Candidates coming from outside the field are applied scientific preparation program.

-Get at least 55 points from ALES (SÖZ,EA or SAY-point type),

-To get a score of at least 55 from YDS or YÖKDİL (Arabic), or from the foreign language (Arabic) exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM or To get at least 50 points from the Arabic Language Proficiency Exam to be made by IZU.

-The courses of this program are given in İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Altunizade campus.

Graduation Requirements

It consists of seven courses of twenty-one hours, a graduate seminar and a thesis study. (Total 120 ECTS and an average of 2.50 and above) The normal duration of completing this program is 4 semesters and the maximum duration is 6 semesters.

Students who complete the course phase submit a thesis proposal to the Institute before starting their thesis. After their thesis proposals are accepted by the Institute, they are entitled to start their thesis.
