ISLAMIC ECONOMICS AND FINANCE (ENGLISH) - THESIS

About the Program

-It consists of seven courses (3 hours per week), graduate seminar, and thesis study (120 ECTS total). The normal duration of this program is 4 semesters; the maximum duration is 6 semesters.

- Students, who completed course phase, submit a thesis proposal with the thesis form to the Institute, before starting their theses. After their proposals approved by the Institute, they can start their theses.

- Students enrolled in thesis master programs in the Institute of Social Sciences must fulfill the following conditions before their graduation.

The student who is enrolled in a graduate program must fulfill at least one of the following conditions in order to graduate.

  1. Two papers presented at national or international scientific meetings,
  2. An article published in a peer-reviewed/ indexed journal, accepted for publication, or received a DOI number,
  3. Two papers presented at Social / Science symposiums organized by IZU.
Program Objectives & Goals

Objectives

  1. The aim of this program is to contribute to the development of the theory of economics and finance from a moral and legal point of Islam and to the establishment of a unique moral and economic system and financial system.
  2. The main aim of the Islamic Economy and Finance (English) graduate programs thesis / without thesis is to provide the students with the knowledge of Islamic economics, interest-free banking, comparative studies of conventional and Islamic banks, economic relations between Islamic countries, access to information through scientific research in the history of Islamic economics and philosophy, gain the ability of information evaluation and interpretation, gain information from participation banking subjects, and how to use it.

KNOWLEDGE

  1. Having knowledge about Islamic moral understanding at academic level
  2. Having sufficient knowledge about basic concepts and methodology of Islamic law
  3. Having enough knowledge about Islamic commercial law
  4. Having enough knowledge and skills about economics and finance
  5. Ability to follow current developments in the global economy in the field of economics and finance

SKILL

  1. To be able to make interdisciplinary academic studies between basic Islamic sciences and economics-finance sciences
  2. Explanation and interpretation of new developments in economics and finance, from the perspective of Islamic morality and law
  3. To be able to develop unique mechanisms and products in accordance with Islamic principles in the financial system
  4. Ability to use the necessary information technologies

  1. To comply with ethical rules in the fields in which they are employed and in economic-commercial activities
  2. Having an understanding of the rights and benefits of all stakeholders of institutions

Degree and Level Awarded

When the program is successfully completed and program qualifications are provided, the degree of Master of Science in Islamic Economics and Finance is achieved.

Admission Requirements

-Having a bachelor's degree,

-Get at least 55 points from ALES (SÖZ-EA-SAY point type), 

-To get a score of at least 70 from YDS or YÖKDİL (English), or from the foreign language (English) exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM or To get at least 70 points from the English Language Proficiency Exam to be made by IZU.

-The courses of this program are given in İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Halkalı campus. In case of sufficient number of applications, the courses can be given in Altunizade campus.

Graduation Requirements

Completing the courses successfully, with a GPA at 2.50 or above, an and being successful in the thesis examination; For the student who submitted at least two copies of the bound thesis to the Institute within one month from the date of entrance to the thesis examination and whose theses endorsed by the format shall be granted by a graduate diploma.

Employment Opportunities

A student who successfully completes the program can apply for a doctorate degree in the field of Islamic Economics and Finance or other branches of science accepting students from this area.
 

Access to Further Studies

The students graduating from this program may apply to Doctorate Degree (third cycle) programs.
