Recognition of Prior Learning
Current education admission procedures, including formal and non-formal learning, are only at the beginning of their development phase in Turkey, and there is no comprehensive and adequate legal framework on this subject at the national level. However, within the framework of institutional autonomy, there are also some practices at the institutional level for the assignment of credits that provide exemption from some program requirements based on RPL. In these studies, which are especially implemented at a comprehensive level, students who have knowledge and skills in areas such as foreign languages and computer use are subjected to an exam before entering the university, and students who are successful at a certain level by the program they are accepted to are considered exempt from the relevant parts of the curriculum. However, RPL is also applied to students who wish to transfer to another institution that is at the same or higher level than the field they are studying, including abroad. In such cases, students may be deemed exempt from courses that are the same or similar to the courses they have previously taken and succeeded in, based on the approval of the program's adjustment board. Admission procedures such as these are used extensively at our university. Regulations regarding the general admission conditions for such practices are outlined in the relevant sections of the Education and Examination Regulations and Directives.
