“Understanding Behavioral Addiction” Program Held at IZU
The “Understanding Behavioral Addiction” program organized by IZU Faculty of Health Sciences was held in the Nizamülmülk Conference Hall. Expert Psychologist Kinyas Tekin and Psychologist Büşra Filiz Kalamış were the speakers of the event, which was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Ayşe Nefise Bahçecik, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zülfinaz Özer, academics, and students.
In the program, which addressed alcohol, substance, gambling, eating, and digital addictions, the experts answered questions such as “Why and how do we become addicted?”, “Is addiction a moral problem?”, “Are addicted individuals dangerous?”, and “Can addictions be treated?”
The program emphasized that everyone has the potential to become addicted and highlighted the impact of genetic factors and social relationships on addiction. Kinyas Tekin underlined that a developing addiction cannot be completely cured but can be managed with professional help. Büşra Filiz Kalamış noted that the number of people gambling and betting on digital platforms has increased since the pandemic, underscoring that betting has become a serious issue in our country.

The instructors and students of İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Nursing Department released pink balloons to the sky for the breast cancer awareness month. The Historical Building were illuminated by pink lights as support for raising awareness. Cancer is leading reason of death in the world while breast cancer comes as the first result of death for women.
