Deputy Minister Mahmut Gürcan Discussed Turkey’s e-Commerce and Entrepreneurship Vision at IZU
At the "Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Meeting" hosted by IZU Zaim Technopark, the role of e-commerce and entrepreneurship in Turkey's economy, innovative business models, and global competition strategies were discussed during the digital transformation process.
Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan was the guest speaker at the "Turkey's e-Commerce and Entrepreneurship Vision" program held at IZU Campus. The event, organized in collaboration with IZU Zaim Technopark, IZU Entrepreneurship and Leadership Application and Research Center, IZU Entrepreneurship Club, and IZU E-Commerce Club, took place at the IZU Zaim Technopark Conference Hall. It was attended by IZU Vice Rector and Technopark General Manager Prof. Dr. İsmail Küçük, Director of the IZU Entrepreneurship Center Dr. Tuğçenur Ekinci Furtana, academics, and students. The event covered developments in e-commerce and entrepreneurship , oppurtunities for new entrepreneurs, initiatives for tech entrepreneurs, and planning around cargo return processes.
KÜÇÜK: “WE WANT TO INSPIRE YOUNG PEOPLE TO INVENT NEW THINGS”
In his speech during the program, Prof. Dr. İsmail Küçük, IZU Vice Rector, emphasized that e-commerce and e-export are two of the most important and dynamic topics in today’s economy, pointing out how digital marketplaces open new opportunities for entrepreneurs. He stated, “A product made in Anatolia is being distributed worldwide through innovations created by young people. This dynamic process greatly contributes to the national economy. Through such meetings, we want to inspire young people who will ‘invent new things’.”
GÜRCAN: "AS TECHNOLOGY ADVANCES, LAWS LAG BEHIND"
Deputy Minister Mahmut Gürcan mentioned that it’s possible to divide the world into two parts—before and after the pandemic. He highlighted how e-commerce experienced rapid growth during this period. He said, “It wasn’t just technological advancements that accelerated; the entire trade process, including customer behaviors, changed. By the end of 2024, Turkey’s e-commerce volume will reach 3 trillion TL, which is about 6.5% of the Gross Domestic Product. E-commerce is a rapidly growing and dynamic sector. There are critical aspects, like ensuring fair competition and protecting consumer rights. As technology progresses, laws are lagging behind. We are working to ensure that the legal framework accommodates these changes.”
DEPUTY MINISTER MAHMUT GÜRCAN MEETS WITH IZU RECTOR
Following the "Turkey’s e-Commerce and Entrepreneurship Vision" program at IZU Zaim Technopark, Deputy Minister Mahmut Gürcan was hosted by IZU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar.
Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. İsmail Küçük and Prof. Dr. Nihat Erdoğmuş also attended the meeting, during which information was shared about the university's entrepreneurship, R&D, and Technopark activities.

Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Vice Rector Professor Doctor Arif Ersoy welcomed the delegation of Gaza Islamic University. The visit took place on İZÜ Halkalı Campus on 6th February 2018.
