IZU Common Elective Foreign Language courses are free of charge for our undergraduate students; however, a book set is required for these courses and this set is subject to a fee.

At the University, students are required to attend 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of practical courses within a semester. (See: Undergraduate Education and Instruction Regulations)
IZU Common Elective Foreign Language Courses consist of 3 theoretical hours and 3 practical/applied hours, and attendance is therefore compulsory.

An English Placement Test (STS) is held at the beginning of each semester for English courses.
Your class will be changed by the coordinatorship according to the level determined as a result of the STS.

Students who request a placement test for other foreign languages may apply to the University Common Elective Courses Coordinatorship.

This is a necessary process for determining the level in English language courses and assigning classes accordingly. You should take it if your level is high enough to move up to a higher level. If you are a beginner, you do not need to take it; you can start directly from level A1.

Based on the world's ten most widely spoken languages and in line with the needs and demands of the market, the following foreign language courses are offered by our Coordinatorship at the A1 < A2 < B1 < B1+ (Plus) < B2 levels, 6 hours a week in dedicated classes each semester.

15.05.2019 dated Senate decision no. 2019/7 allows exemption to be requested from the Compulsory Common Foreign Language courses (YDL 101/102 English I/II and YDL 105/106 Advanced English I/II) in return for IZU Common Elective English Courses.

-In order to request an exemption, a grade of CC or above must be obtained in the relevant course. The grade for the Compulsory Common Foreign Language Course from which the student is exempted will appear as "MU" on the transcript and the CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) will not be affected.

No, you do not have to retake an IZU Common Elective Course you have failed. Instead, you may take another IZU Common Elective Course and, once you have passed it, apply to your own Faculty Secretariat to have it counted in place of the IZU Common Elective Course you failed.
International students admitted to our university through the YÖS exam may not take IZU Common Elective Foreign Language courses in their native language, in the official language of their country, or in the language of the programme they are enrolled in.
No, our students enrolled in the English/Arabic/Turkish preparatory classes may not take IZU Common Elective Foreign language courses.

The prerequisite for taking IZU Language Elective courses is that the language in question is not the student's native language and that the student is not already proficient in it.
For example, a student studying in an English-medium department cannot take an English language course, a student studying in an Arabic-medium department cannot take an Arabic language course, and neither a Turkish citizen nor an international student studying in a Turkish-medium department can take a Turkish language course.
