FOOD NUTRITION - THESIS

About the Program

-The program consists of seven courses (3 hours per week), graduate seminar, and thesis study (120 ECTS in total). The normal duration of this program is 4 semesters; the maximum allowable duration is 6 semesters.

- Students, who completed course phase, submit a thesis proposal along with the filled thesis proposal form to the Institute, prior to starting their theses. Once their proposals are approved by the Institute, the thesis procedure officially starts.

Program Objectives & Goals

Objectives

  1. Bringing those from food and relative disciplines together.
  2. Enabling the understanding of physiological processes during product development and consumption in food-nutrition industry
  3. Equipping students with multidimensional and multidiscilinary perspectives.
  4. Performing the studies based on Human health in accordance with Turkey's targets in food and health in terms of 11th Development Plan.
  5. Making possible the effects of food development and in vivo tests on human health by collaborating with nutrition and other relevant disciplines.

It is evaluated according to the graduate education regulations of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

Degree and Level Awarded

FOOD NUTRITION master's program with thesis is a 2-year (4 semesters) program consisting of 120 ECTS. The program, Bologna process "in higher education EQF Top Frame (QF-EHEA)" as defined in sin "Second Level (Second Cycle)" and "Turkey Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ)" as defined in the "Level 7" ECTS determined for qualifications. It meets the requirements and level qualifications as well as the "Level 7" qualifications defined in the "European Lifelong Learning Qualifications Framework (EQF-LLL)".

When the program is successfully completed and program qualifications are provided, the degree of Master of Science in Food Nutrtion is obtained.

Admission Requirements

-Beslenme ve Diyetetik, Beşeri Tıp, Eczacılık, Hemşirelik, Kimya, Kimya Mühendisliği, Ziraat Fakülteleri, Gıda mühendisliği, Biyoloji, Moleküler Biyoloji ve Genetik, Genetik, Gastronomi ve Mutfak sanatları, Gastronomi ile Veteriner Fakültesi lisans mezunu olmak,

-Diğer alanlardan gelen adaylara bilimsel hazırlık programı uygulanır. 

-ALES'ten (SAY-puan türünden) en az 55 puan almak,

-Bu programın dersleri İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim Üniversitesi Halkalı kampüsünde verilmektedir.

Graduation Requirements

Successfully completing the courses, with a weighted overall grade average of 2.50 and above, and being successful in the thesis examination, at least two copies of the bound thesis must be submitted to the Institute within one month from the date of entrance to the thesis examination. 

Recognition of Prior Learning

The following criteria must be taken into consideration for those, who will enroll to, and take course in this program:

  1. The students willing to enroll to the program will take scientific probation courses, up to 8 courses maximum, according to the Department from which she/he graduated;
  2. Within the scope of the scientific probation program, the courses which will be taken from Food Engineering and/or Nutrition and Dietetics should not exceed 60% of the courses given in these two programs;
  3. The students may be allowed to take a PhD course from Food Engineering,  any course from another department's graduate program, and a course from any undergraduate program (unless taken before) if and only if the Char of the Department permits;
  4. The distribution of the courses to be taken from each department are determined based on ECTS;
  5. All the courses and the rules related to course selection are announced in the Deaprtment's website;
  6. Those, who graduated from either food engineering or nutrition and dietetics as double major students, are exeöpted from the scientific probation program.
Employment Opportunities

A student who successfully completes the program can work for  food industry in food sciences and technology, health units, universities, food quality, food safety and security labs and organizations, public health related areas, R & D Units, nutrition and dietetics related fields, multidisciplinary projects, and food and beverage organizations.

Access to Further Studies

A student who successfully completes the program can apply for a doctorate degree in the field of Food Engineering, Nutrition and Dietetics, gastronomy related departments.
