Course Objective

How can societies find a resolution to conflicts? What possible resolutions are available for politically engaged actors? This course will answer these two questions through equipping students with the awareness of the existing conflict management, conflict resolution, conflict transformation, peacebuilding and statebuilding theories and practices.

Course Content

Students will be taught the key issues and debates related to the theories of peace and practices of peacebuilding, statebuilding, conflict management, resolution, and transformation. Further, they will be aware of key academic and policy publcations on peacebuilding, international governance structures, statebuilding, and the role of key actors and institutions including NGOs and military and other security actors. 

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will develop a critical understanding of general and local approaches to peacebuilding. Students will also be able to apply these approaches to case studies in the process of identifying divisive issues and common grounds in a conflict-ridden society.
