Course Objective

Student received this course gains knowledge of how to reach scientific and current knowledge, to follow literature, to assess the accuracy, validity and reliability of the knowledge, and to apply the knowledge related to first aid and disaster nursing; gains skills and competences to use informatics and care technologies; to plan and apply first aid and emergency care with holistic and systematic approach, to evaluate and report the effects of given nursing care; to plan and carry out a scientific study in first aid and disaster nursing field, and to report the results by analyzing them; to develop new ideas and methods related to first aid and disaster nursing by using high level mental processes as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and deciding.

Course Content

The course includes topics as disasters in public, causes, problems emerged; general concepts in disasters, approachs and regulations about disasters, instutions take roles in disasters, disaster management (pre, intra and post) and the roles of persons take charge in disasters, definition and importance of first aid, evaluation and transport of persons who experienced disaster, securing breathing and circulation, bleeding and shock, trauma (soft tissue, extremity, abdominal, skull, spinal cord, chest), splint, dressing and bandage implementations, burns, exposure to heat and cold, medical emergencies, poisoning, bites, civil defense (nuclear, chemical, clasic and bilogical wars) and laboratory practices.

  1. Explains how to reach scientific and current knowledge, to follow literature, to assess the accuracy, validity and reliability of the knowledge, and to apply the knowledge related to first aid and disaster nursing.
  2. Plans and carries out scientific studies in first aid and disaster nursing field, and reports the results by analyzing them.
  3. Plans and applies first aid and emergency care with holistic and systematic approach by using hypothetic, evidence-based and practical knowledge in expert level gained in first aid and disaster nursing field, evaluates and reports the effects of given nursing care.
  4. Uses informatics and care technologies in first aid and disaster nursing efficacy areas (education, practice, research and management).
  5. Develops new ideas and methods related to first aid and disaster nursing by using high level mental processes as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and deciding.
