Course Objective

This course aims to introduce students to basic concepts in distributed systems and applications. Their characteristics are defined. In addition, interprocess communications, middleware, distributed objects, name and web services are discussed. To enable them to design and develop new distributed applications.

Course Content

The course consists mainly of following subjects: various definitions of distributed systems, resource sharing and web, characteristics that a distributed system must meet, distributed system types, architectural styles, layered approach, middleware, threads and processes, clients and servers, interprocess communication, remote procedure call, name and web services, events and logical clocks, file system design
