Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the studies of the history of religions conducted in the Muslim world and the West; to study the nature, origins, interactions with other religions, theological principles, forms of worship, moral systems, institutions, and sects of the various religions on Earth.

Course Content

This course examines the concept of religion and approaches to the origins of religion, the emergence of the academic discipline of History of Religions, Muslim scholarship on religions, and various aspects of the historical development, fundamental beliefs, sacred texts, forms of worship, and denominations of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Judaism, Chinese religions, and Japanese religions.

  2. Becomes familiar with the religions that emerged within the Indian cultural sphere.
  3. Learns about various religions in China.
  4. Gains knowledge of the religious beliefs of Japan.
  5. Understands the academic perspective on the concept of religion and the discipline of History of Religions.
  6. Interprets traditional and modern structures, as well as emerging trends, within religions.
  7. Understands the history of Judaism, its fundamental beliefs, religious practices, and ethical principles.
  8. Gains knowledge of traditional Turkish religious beliefs and practices.
  9. Compares religions in terms of their similarities, differences, and common features.
