ISF 039 - Religion and Modernization

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to reveal the expansions of religion in general, and Islam in particular, in various regions and periods after its institutional emergence in history; In particular, to discuss the understanding of existence and knowledge of the period we call the "modern period" and the places where it overlaps and diverges from the basic claims of religion, and to develop new interpretations on the problematic aspects of these two world views, especially in terms of religion, by giving information about the implications and extensions of the Islamic worldview and the modern worldview.

Course Content

The content of the course includes the basic claims of religion and revealing the creeds that give a certain religion its basic feature in order of importance, modern epistemology, which is among the basic claims of science, what scientific laws or principles are and where their values ​​stand in the context of time and space.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. to find solutions to the problems faced by members of various religions.
  2. As a result of the course, the student judges the religion-related provisions in international legal documents in terms of basic teachings of living religions.
