ECTS: 7 T+P+L: 0+12+0 Compulsory
Coordinator: Arş. Gör. İrem KAYA
Instructors: Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Hafsa Sena SARGIN MIZRAK

Course Objective

The purpose of this professional training is to enable students to learn, through hands-on practice in a hospital setting, the application of nutrition therapy in diseases seen in individuals during childhood (newborn, infant, school-age, adolescent). Students develop their professional skills by experiencing clinical practices such as growth and development assessment, interpretation of clinical and laboratory data, individualized medical nutrition therapy planning, communication with the patient and family, and taking part within the healthcare team, through observation of real cases. During the professional training process, the aim is also to instill ethical principles, record-keeping, clinical decision-making, and awareness of professional responsibility.

Course Content

Within the scope of this course, students learn nutrition therapy for clinical conditions commonly encountered in newborns, children, and adolescents through case-based presentations. Each student conducts a growth and development assessment based on a specific pediatric case, interprets the clinical and laboratory findings, develops an individualized nutrition plan appropriate to the medical diagnosis, and presents this process in the classroom, supported by scientific literature. Through the discussions held after the presentations, students' skills in clinical decision-making, professional communication, and application of professional ethical principles are supported. In addition to the transfer of theoretical knowledge, the course is based on students' active participation, taking responsibility, and learning from one another.
