Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to understand and apply the nutritional needs of older adults, common nutritional problems in aging, and appropriate dietary strategies.

Course Content

The content of this course covers the importance of nutrition in older adults and the physiological and metabolic changes that occur during aging. The course addresses fundamental nutrition topics such as energy and macronutrient requirements, vitamin and mineral needs, and water and electrolyte balance. It also focuses on common nutritional deficiencies and malnutrition risks in older adults, the relationship between nutrition and chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis), and appropriate dietary strategies. In the practical component, nutrition support methods, diet planning, and nutrition education for older adults are discussed. Finally, the evaluation of current research and article presentations aims to enhance students’ critical thinking and practical skills.
