The main aim of Turkish Language Teaching, established in 2013 within the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Education, is to give students in-depth knowledge of Turkish language and literature and to train qualified Turkish teachers by giving them the pedagogical formation required by the teaching profession. To this end, in addition to subject courses such as Turkish Language, Turkish Literature and Turkish Culture, the programme includes professional teaching courses, complementary elective culture courses and foreign language courses, so that students receive practical training along with theoretical knowledge. Students have the opportunity to do a double major if approved.
Graduates of the department can work with the title of “Turkish Teacher” in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, and in tutoring and study centres. They can also find work in press and publishing organizations, educational and cultural institutions, archives, museums, Turkology centres and various public and private organizations in Turkey and abroad. Our graduates also have the opportunity to become academics by continuing with graduate education such as master's and doctoral programmes. The aim of the programme is to contribute to our country and humanity by educating individuals who are equipped with the identity of researcher and educator, can communicate effectively, have a sense of social responsibility, embrace national values and respect universal values.
