Economics (English)
The main goal of the Department of Economics (English) of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Business and Management Sciences is to inform its students about national and international economic developments, to contribute to their better understanding, analysis and interpretation of economic events, and to increase their problem-solving capacity. In addition to the core economics courses that will enable our students to succeed in their education and working lives, the department also offers courses in other related fields such as business administration, finance, law, sociology, mathematics and statistics. Double major and minor opportunities are also offered to our students so that they can develop an interdisciplinary approach and be better prepared for the future, and student exchange programmes abroad such as Erasmus enable them to gain international experience.
The Economics undergraduate programme is a 240-ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) programme with a normal duration of 4 academic years consisting of 8 semesters. 1 ECTS corresponds to a student workload of 30 (hours/semester).
Opportunities Offered to Students
- Opportunity to learn foreign languages (free of charge),
- Opportunity to do a minor (with a scholarship for the normal period of study plus one additional year),
- Opportunity to do a double major (with a scholarship for the normal period of study plus one additional year),

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Department of Economics have many job opportunities in both the public and private sectors. These include various high-level public institutions such as the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, the Undersecretariat of Treasury, the Capital Markets Board, Borsa Istanbul and the Participation Banks Association of Turkey. In addition, economics graduates have various career opportunities as directors, specialists or researchers in relevant ministries and research centres. Economists are also known to be the preferred choice in public and private banks and financial institutions. In addition to working as certified public accountants and financial advisers, economics graduates can become managers or economists in domestic and international companies or take on various roles in the accounting and finance departments of these companies. In addition, if they pass the relevant exams, they can serve as administrative judges and district governors. Some economics graduates prefer to work in family businesses or start their own businesses. Those who continue with master's and doctoral programmes also have the opportunity to pursue an academic career and become academics.

Mission
The mission of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Economics (English) Undergraduate Programme is to educate graduates who understand and can analyse the theoretical and applied dimensions of economic systems and can develop sustainable solutions with social benefit in mind. The aim is for graduates to gain an economic perspective based on critical thinking, analytical competence and ethical values. The programme produces graduates who can follow the dynamics of the global economy, are sensitive to local economic problems and have adopted a solution-oriented approach.

The vision of the Economics (English) Undergraduate Programme is to be a programme recognized and preferred at national and international level as an innovative and pioneering department in the dimensions set out in its mission.

Our Programme Educational Objectives:
The Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Economics (English) Undergraduate Programme aims:
PEO1: To give its graduates the competence to work in positions such as economist, analyst and financial adviser in fields requiring economic analysis,
PEO2: To give its graduates the competence to work in fields such as accounting, finance and taxation in financial institutions and real sector companies,
PEO3: To give its graduates the competence to work in professions such as district governor, administrative judge and inspector in public institutions,
PEO4: To give its graduates the competence to work as managers or specialists in their own businesses as entrepreneurs,
PEO5: To give its graduates the competence to pursue an academic career through graduate education.

Our Programme Outcomes:
Knowledge (Theoretical / Factual)
1. Explains concepts in microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics and other fields of economics and defines the relationships between these concepts.
2. Establishes the relationship between sustainable development, ecological balance and social justice, and develops appropriate economic policies within this framework.
3. Has a lifelong learning perspective; follows innovations in the field and updates knowledge, skills and competence.
Skills (Cognitive / Practical)
4. Applies the mathematical and statistical methods needed to analyse economic events and interprets the data obtained.
5. Uses the software and technologies required for big data within the scope of economic analysis effectively.
Competence (Working Independently and Taking Responsibility)
6. Defines and analyses economic problems and designs proposed solutions to these problems.
7. Collects data on the Turkish economy and local economic structures, needs and problems; analyses these data and uses them in policy development.
8. Follows current literature on economics in a foreign language; makes written and oral presentations in a foreign language on national and international platforms in the field.

9. Explains how the global economic system works and the dynamics of international trade and financial markets, and analyses their economic effects.

10. Compares the ethical dimension of economic decisions and develops approaches that take social benefit into account.

11. Establishes the relationships between economics and other fields such as statistics, politics, sociology, law and business administration.
