With the high-intensity neutron-rich ion beam to be produced at SPIRAL2, different nuclear reactions will be carried out and exotic compound nuclei with initial angular momenta of up to 100 ħ will be produced in fusion-evaporation reactions. These nuclei are expected to emit gamma rays with energies reaching up to 50 MeV. For this reason, detecting the emitted gamma rays with conventional semiconductor (Ge) detector arrays does not appear feasible. Within the scope of this project, the aim is to design and build a detector array consisting of high-resolution LaBr3(Ce)/NaI(Tl) phoswich detectors capable of detecting very high-energy gamma rays.
