From Medicine to a Spiritual Journey

At the program titled “From Medicine to a Spiritual Journey,” Op. Dr. Salih Selman, who was a guest of IZU students, emphasized the importance of disciplined work, knowledge, and morality. Selman stated, “Being people of faith is just as necessary as achieving worldly success.”

Organized by the IZU New Generation Student Community and the Turkey Youth Foundation, the program titled “From Medicine to a Spiritual Journey” was held with the participation of Op. Dr. Salih Selman. The event took place at the Abdullah Tivnikli Conference Hall and was attended by IZU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, academics, and students.

ACAR: IT IS IMPORTANT TO ESTABLISH A BALANCE BETWEEN THIS WORLD AND THE HEREAFTER
In his opening address, Rector Acar stated that Dr. Selman’s efforts to uphold and sustain truth even under the most unfavorable conditions constitute a fine example. “As our society rapidly becomes more worldly, it is very important that Dr. Salih Selman devotes a significant portion of his time and effort to conveying the truth. Establishing a balance between our material and spiritual dimensions, and between our worldly and otherworldly needs, requires effort and perseverance,” Acar said, adding that it is possible to stand firm despite individual and societal pressures.

SELMAN: HUMAN SUPERIORITY COMES THROUGH KNOWLEDGE
Emphasizing that being people of faith is as necessary as worldly success, Salih Selman shared examples from his own memories, highlighting the importance of learning and putting what one learns into practice. “Human superiority comes through knowledge. Prophet Adam attained a higher rank than the angels through the knowledge he possessed. After conquering Istanbul, Fatih Sultan Mehmed applied to become a student at the madrasa he had established,” Selman said, also reminding the audience of the influence of choosing friends on one’s decisions and character.
