The program will begin in October 2026. The program schedule will be announced shortly.

This is a workshop that teaches how to watch a work closely — a film, a series or a literary text — how to analyse it and how to evaluate it with sound reasoning. Over twenty-eight weeks, participants learn analytical viewing, the language of cinema, genre and auteur theory, ideology and representation; they write regularly, revise their work and complete a final critical essay.

Each week consists of three stages: a short theoretical introduction, a workshop exercise (writing or analysis) and peer critique. The broad fourteen-week schedule gives every concept room to breathe, with dedicated production and critique weeks at regular intervals as well as in-depth revision cycles. The emphasis is not on memorisation but on production, repetition and thinking together.

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Özdemir
  • Dr. Lect. Necmettin Özmen
  • and guest critics

For certification: attendance at at least 80% of the sessions; completion of the weekly analysis/writing assignments; submission and presentation of the final critical essay. Those who fulfil these requirements receive a Certificate of Achievement; those who meet only the attendance requirement receive a Certificate of Participation.

Final Project

A full critical essay (approximately 1,500-2,500 words) on a film, series or literary work, meeting the criteria of thesis, evidence and style.

Attendance of 80% of the workshop is mandatory.
