Certificate Programme in Islamic Economics and Participation Banking

A university degree is required in order to enrol in the certificate programme.

The International Research Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University (IZUISEFAM) is the first research centre established in this field at university level in Türkiye. The centre's main aim is to conduct academic work on Islamic economics and finance, to produce new knowledge and develop practical models in these fields through an interdisciplinary approach, and to organise seminars and conferences that help students, researchers and society as a whole to learn about, understand and interpret Islamic economics and finance more effectively. In line with these aims, the Certificate Programme in Islamic Economics and Participation Banking will be delivered by the Continuing Education Centre with the support of IZUISEFAM. TRAINING The certificate programme consists of 62 hours of instruction. Roughly half of the training covers theoretical and applied courses on Islamic economics and the other half on participation banking. The programme runs for a total of 8 days. Attendance of at least 80% of classes is compulsory. Classes will be held at our university's Fındıklı Campus. Class size is a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 40 participants. At the end of the certificate training, a multiple-choice examination consisting of 25 questions will be held. Participants who pass this examination will receive a certificate. Those who do not pass will be given the opportunity to sit subsequent examinations free of charge. The courses offered in the certificate programme are as follows: Contemporary Economic Systems and Islamic Economics, The Institutional Structure of Islamic Economics, Money and the Market in Islamic Economics, Islamic Economic Thought, Islamic Economic History, Ottoman Economic History, Islamic Contract Theory, Introduction to Participation Banking, Social Justice and Microfinance in Islamic Economics, Labour and Human Capital in Islamic Economics, International Islamic Financial Institutions, Islamic Capital Markets, Contemporary Islamic Financial Products, Risk Management in Participation Banking, The Advantages of Participation Banking, and Participation Banking Practices and Standards. Where necessary, changes may be made to the instructors listed in the programme and to class times.

Emin Özer. Changes may be made where necessary depending on the schedules of the faculty members listed.

Participants who pass the examination held at the end of the programme are entitled to receive a certificate approved by the Continuing Education Centre of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

Attendance of at least 80% is compulsory on IZUSEM programmes.

Photocopy of diploma or graduation certificate.

  • Discounts are available, subject to quota, for IZU staff, alumni and students.
  • Should the competent government authorities declare curfews or similar measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the announced programme schedules may be subject to change.
  • IZUSEM reserves the right to make any changes it deems necessary during the announcement and implementation stages of its programmes.
  • As the quota for the programme in question is limited, no refund will be made to participants who have been granted final registration by IZUSEM and have paid the programme fee, regardless of whether they attend the programme, except for those who submit a written application to IZUSEM stating that they will be unable to attend at least 2 weeks before the programme's start date.
  • Weekday and weekend training groups will be determined according to the number of participants during the final registration period.
