Course Objective

The purpose of this module is to introduce students to types of Islamic scripts, particularly "naskhi" and also some others such as "ta’lîq", "divani" and "riq’a"

  • Reading texts (written in Naskh)
  • Also other texts (written in Riq'a, taliq and divani)

Students will read the texts written in Ottoman script in their exams

Students are expected to attend the class regularly

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Students shall have the ability to read text written in Ottoman Turkish (particularly in Naskh)
  2. Students shall have the ability to know the types in Ottoman calligraphy
  3. Students shall have the ability to know the other types of Islamic scripts such as riqa, taliq, divani
  4. Students are expected to have acquired the ability to understand the texts written in Ottoman Turkish
