Education Planning and Common Courses Coordination Office
Through its University Common Elective Courses, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University aims to educate its students as individuals with broad horizons and high self-confidence, well versed in world literature and able to think across disciplines. In addition to the knowledge and skills training of their own department, these courses give students a new perspective, a capacity for interpretation and a practice of making sense of the world in many fields, from literature to art and history, from health to economics and from communication to politics. They also provide the opportunity to study Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Arabic, English, Russian, Spanish and Chinese so that students can become closely acquainted with our civilization and the contemporary world, understand them and communicate effectively.
With the contribution of the University Common Elective Courses, our University aims to educate architects who know the world classics, engineers who can think critically, lawyers who develop social responsibility projects, psychologists with an entrepreneurship certificate, teachers who can use sign language and economists who can speak Chinese. Independently of the education provided by their own departments, all our undergraduate students can choose common elective courses in the fields they are curious about, interested in and wish to develop themselves in. Taken together by students from different faculties and departments, these courses both enrich students culturally and create a meaningful environment for coming together.
