Course Objective
The main objective of the Turkish Economy course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental structure and transformation of the Turkish economy. The course aims to furnish students with a robust historical, institutional, and structural framework necessary for analyzing economic developments in Turkey.
Course Content
A thorough examination of Turkey's economic development from the early 19th century to the present is covered in the course. Important topics such as institutional frameworks, human development, economic progress, and reactions to outside pressures examined. The course begins with a look at the institutional frameworks and legacy of the Ottoman Empire before delving into the Ottoman Empire's response to pressure from Europe and eventual transition to a nation-state. It covers the several stages of economic growth, including post-World War II inward-looking policies and the effects of globalization and neoliberal policies. Students will get a comprehensive grasp of Turkey's economic trajectory by highlighting the interplay between institutional changes, economic policies, and larger historical settings throughout the course.
