Course Objective

Learn the basics of networking theory. Learn networking concepts relevant to modern wireless systems. Learn emerging mobile computing ideas and best practices. Learn new cloud computing ideas, and how it they relate to mobile computing. Get hands-on knowledge practice with mobile computing and cloud services.

Course Content

Basic concepts of data transmission. Summary of network layers and network architecture. ISO-OSI reference model. Physical layer and data communication issues. Circuit switching, packet switching. Network topology. Data link layer and protocols, error detection and correction. Local area networks, Ethernet bridges and switches. Network layer issues and protocols, congestion control, Internet Protocol. The Transport Layer and Internet transport protocols (TCP and UDP), routing algorithms. Network applications and programming: socket interface, DNS, SMTP, FTP, and WWW.
