Course Objective
This course is designed for graduate students to gain practical knowledge and experience of digital image processing. Course will cover from basics to state-of-the-art image processing techniques.
Course Content
We will cover origins of image processing, digital image fundamentals, intensity transformations and spatial filtering, filtering in frequency domain, image restoration and reconstruction, image segmentation, special topics on recent progresses on digital image processing.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Able to develop a theoretical foundation of fundamental Digital Image Processing concepts.
- Learn mathematical foundations for digital manipulation of images.
- Able to explain how digital images are represented and manipulated in a computer, including reading and writing from storage, and displaying.
- Able to write a program that implements fundamental image processing algorithms.
- Able to be conversant with the mathematical description of image processing techniques and know-how to go from the equations to code.
- Able to gain experience and practical techniques to write programs using MATLAB language for digital manipulation of images.
