Course Objective

The aim of this course is to equip prospective teachers with basic computer literacy skills.

Course Content

Information technology and computational thinking; problem-solving concepts and approaches; algorithms and flowcharts; computer systems; fundamental concepts related to software and hardware; basics of operating systems, current operating systems; file management; utility programs (third-party software); word processing programs; spreadsheet/graphics programs; presentation programs; desktop publishing; database management systems; web design; internet use in education; communication and collaboration technologies; safe internet use; information ethics and copyright; the effects of computers and the internet on children/young people.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. It defines fundamental concepts related to information technology.
  2. It explains how a computer works and the logic behind its operating system.
  3. It creates flowcharts for simple problems.
  4. It describes the basic features of the operating system and personalizes the system.
  5. Uses word processors, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases appropriately.
  6. Demonstrates attention to ethical principles when using resources obtained from online sources.
  7. Effectively utilizes information technologies within their field of study.
