ISL 539 - Financial Management

Course Objective

This course will explore the financial decisions faced by financial managers in their interactions with external investors and within their firms. At the same time, we accept that their main aim is maximizing the firm value. Financial managers have numerous investment opportunities. They must decide which assets to purchase and projects to undertake. At the same time, they must decide how to fund such investments, whether to raise cash from creditors or shareholders and what the best mix of debt and equity financing is. This course aims to provide students with the necessary skills to make such investment and financing decisions.

Course Content

Capital budgeting, stock, bond and firm valuation, capital structure, dividend policy and long-term financing are the topics covered in this course.

- Course attendance is not compulsory but attendance will be taken and additional points will be given to attendance.

-If totality of the notes is not 70, the student would fail.

-Cheating during exams and while preparing homeworks is not tolerated.

  1. At the end of this course, the students will be able to, -learn the basic concepts and theories of financial management, -to make calculations about inventories, capital budgeting, -to interpret the connections between reality and theory.
