Graduate Education Institute · Architecture · Doctorate

ECTS: 7.5 T+P+L: 3+0+0 Departmental Elective
Coordinator: Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Muhammed Emin AKYÜREK

Course Objective

It is aimed to introduce architectural students to earthquakes in an earthquake region, to be able to cooperate with construction engineer at the beginning of design and to gain the ability to develop common language for this purpose. For this purpose, lessons to be taken from past earthquakes, current regulations, structure of structures, strengthening techniques, seismic isolation.

Course Content

Technological constructions, high structural systems, large span systems and design principles, seismic insulation, tent systems, suspension-tension systems, inflatable systems and examples.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Evaluating the Behavior of Existing Buildings in the Affect of Earthquakes, Taking Strengthening Decisions.
  2. Understand the requirements to be taken into consideration in the architectural project design in terms of earthquakes and the requirements of the current earthquake regulations.
  3. To be able to develop post-earthquake damage assessment and repair and strengthening methods in buildings.
