Course Objective

The aim is to teach the phonological, morphological, and lexical characteristics of Chagatai Turkish—one of the branches of the Middle Turkish period of the Turkish language—as well as the characteristics of works from this period.

Course Content

Understands the origins and historical development of Chagatai Turkish. Is knowledgeable about Chagatai Turkish works and authors. Transliterates Chagatai Turkish texts. Conducts textual analysis on these texts.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. He/she is familiar with the origins and historical stages of development of Chagatai Turkish.
  2. He/she is familiar with the maps showing the spread of Chagatai Turkish.
  3. He/she is familiar with texts that demonstrate the linguistic features of Chagatai Turkish and the authors of these works.
  4. He/she recognizes texts written in Chagatai Turkish.
  5. Understands the linguistic features of Chagatai Turkish.
  6. He /she conducts lexical analyses of the lexicon of Chagatai Turkish.
