Course Objective

This course provides students with an introduction to the political and epistemological issues of multiculturalism and identity politics as well as an introduction of concepts of “race,” “religion,” and “culture” as articulated by prominent political theorists engaged in these debates.

Course Content

With the use of the tools from comparative political theory, this course aims to deepen students’ understanding of the wide array of cultural and religious adaptations to modernity as well as different frameworks of recognition of plurality in today’s highly diverse political societies.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. To enable students to develop the conceptual skills needed in assessing the arguments for and against pluralism and diversity.
