Course Objective

This course aims to identify, analyse and evaluate aspects concerning various developments in the status and treatment of minorities in democratic societies. 


 

Course Content

The course will explore the main problems of the discrimination of minorities and will analyse variations in state approaches to the problems of different minorities. In this course the students will gain insights to the reasons and bases for inequalities and the main consequences with regard to minority rights. The course will explore the national and international mechanisms of the protection of rights of minorities and social vulnerable groups

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. In this course students will gain insights into the many challenges involved in defining and protecting minorities.
  2. Students will be able to identify the benefits of protection of minorities in a democratic society
  3. They will be able to analyse the nature and character of problems connected with minorities and social vulnerable groups in concrete circumstances.
