Course Objective
This class explores the major theories and family development research in the field. Students investigate biological, psychological and historical factors that influence individual and family developmental patterns in social contexts.
Course Content
Familiy theories, love theories, types of marriages, family functions, family problems, effect of culture on families, legal issues regarding to marriages.

Course Learning Outcomes
- •Students will be able to understand what elements of communication within the family and what to look for in order to understand the direction of family communication in social work practices with families,
- Students will be able to relate family and family functions to family policy. The function of family policies in the world and in Turkey
- Students will be able to comprehend the macro level problems such as poverty, migration, adaptation to urban life negatively affecting families and direct families to institutional rehabilitation which facilitates solutions in these issues.
- Students will be able to reach general opinion about the basic elements of effective communication.
- Students will be able to have a general understanding of family issues: to develop a general understanding of domestic violence and abuse, substance abuse, divorce and divorce.
