Course Objective
1. To demonstrate the importance of social psychology—a social science—from the perspective of communication sciences. 2. To recognize the fundamental social-psychological origins of communication elements within social and cultural contexts. 3. To illustrate the significance of an individual's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in their life, and to grasp the processes of attitude formation and development. 4. To examine human interactions within social groups, the mutual influence between the individual and the social environment, and the dynamics of conformity behavior. 5. To establish parallels between the historical development of social psychology and the current state of communication sciences, and to identify the origins of the knowledge base.
Course Content
Social Psychology, a significant branch of the social sciences, constitutes an essential area of interest for communication sciences, given its direct link to societal development, change, and interaction. The course aims to convey social phenomena while enhancing communication skills and providing opportunities for informative studies and field research. Topics covered include the historical development, subject matter, approaches, and methods of Social Psychology; the examination of social influence and conformity; attitudes and attitude change; prejudice; attitudes within the applied context of communication and propaganda; social roles, status, and authority; intergroup communication; and culture.
