Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to effectively apply their statistical knowledge and skills in their own research by examining the basic concepts of statistics, descriptive statistics and parameters, introduction to sampling theory and basic sampling methods, statistical interpretation, hypothesis testing and data analysis in social research.

Course Content

This course includes the following topics: Discussing expectations for the course, statistics for social sciences, basic concepts in statistics, frequency distribution tables and graphs, measures of central tendency and measures of variation, probability distributions, sampling distributions, parameter estimation and confidence intervals, hypothesis (significance) tests, test of goodness of fit to normal distribution, test of homogeneity of variances, hypothesis tests-parametric tests, hypothesis tests-parametric tests, hypothesis tests-nonparametric tests, hypothesis tests-nonparametric tests, correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis I, correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis II, general evaluation of the course.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. 1. Will be able to understand the usage areas, purposes and importance of statistics in social sciences.

  3. 3. Will be able to acquire the ability to distinguish appropriate statistical information and collect data for social investigation, evaluation and report preparation.
