Course Objective

By interpreting the relationship between nutrition and health, it is to provide students with the ability to evaluate carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals, which are grouped as nutrients, in terms of nutritional sources, needs in various age groups and metabolism.

Course Content

This course includes the relationship between nutrition and health, Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids, Principles of working in the laboratory. Carbohydrate, protein and lipid applications.,Energy metabolism,Nucleic acids, enzymes and hormones,Water and minerals: Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Copper,Minerals:Iodine, Fluorine, Zinc, Manganese, Chromium, Molybdenum, Sulfur, Selenium, Cobalt,Vitamins: Vitamin A,D,E,K,Vitamins: Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid,,Vitamins: Vitamin C, Pantothenic Acid, Biotin, Choline, Carnitine, Inositol,, Laboratory application of vitamins and minerals.

Explanations

Evaluation will be made through a midterm exam and a final exam.

Rules

70% attendance is mandatory.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Ability to evaluate the relationship between nutrition and health
  2. To be able to relate the importance of energy and macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) in healthy nutrition and body work.
  3. Be able to discuss the importance of vitamins, minerals and water in healthy nutrition and body work.
