Course Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge and awareness about diabetes, diabetes-related conditions, diabetes management, diabetes technologies and diabetes nursing.
Course Content
This course covers the status of diabetes in the world and in Turkey, diagnosis of diabetes, physiopathology of diabetes, treatment and management of diabetes, diabetes in different life periods, acute and chronic complications of diabetes and management of complications, diabetes education, roles and responsibilities of the diabetes nurse, and diabetes and technology.

Course Learning Outcomes
- Student can define diabetes and explain the types of diabetes
- Student can explain the signs and symptoms of diabetes and the risk factors that predispose to diabetes.
- Student can explain diabetes diagnostic examinations and can interpret laboratory results.
- Student can explain the components of diabetes treatment and can relate them to each other
- Student can explain the causes, symptoms and management of acute complications of diabetes
- Student can explain the causes, symptoms and management of chronic complications of diabetes
- Student can explain the causes and prevention of diabetic foot complications.
- Student can explain how to manage diabetes in special situations and conditions (old age, travel, vaccination, natural disasters, religious duties, orphanages, nursing homes, prisons, workplace)
- Student can explain diabetes technologies
- Student can explain the development of diabetes education and diabetes nursing from past to present.
