Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences · Software Engineering (English) · Undergraduate
Course Objective
The aim of the course is to have students to make theoretical or practical (experimental) projects under the consultancy of different lecturers
Course Content
Each of the students will prepare projects about computer engineering, represent them to their lecturers as a report and defend their projects.
Explanations
a) Report writing language
All reports will be submitted in English to groups formed by software engineering and computer engineering students.
b) Formation of groups
- Groups should be a maximum of 4 people. They can develop joint projects with students from Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Engineering, Nursing, Business Administration, Law, etc.
c) Determination of mentors
- After making a portfolio presentation to the lecturers you want to be your advisor, select the agreed lecturer(s) on the form to be shared (3 preferences will be allowed)
- Advisor professors will have a group quota. The group quota of the professors will be determined depending on the student density during the semester (the maximum number of project groups of the professors is considered as 4+1. +1 is the group quota for a single person).
- In case the quotas of your preferred professors are filled, an assignment will be made to a professor whose quota is not filled.
- The advisors will be determined based on the opinions of your preferred professors.
d)Change of group/change of advisor
- Group changes/advisor changes must be made by the end of the 8th week of the semester. Subsequent change requests will not be accepted.
e) Participation in studies
Students who do not participate in group work and meetings determined by the advisor 3 times will fail the course due to absenteeism.
f) Timing and method of submission of reports
- All reports will be submitted as a single report on behalf of the group.
- Submission of the interim report (Project Proposal) - To be submitted at the end of the 10th week, the headings to be included in the interim report are as follows: aim and objective of the thesis, project phases, work packages, and work-time schedule. The relevant report format will be shared with Moodle.
- Final report submission - To be submitted at the end of the 14th week, the required headings in the final report are as follows: abstract, introduction, literature review, materials and methods, experimental studies and results, work packages, and timetable for Capstone Project II. The relevant report format will be shared with Moodle.
- The plagiarism rate in the final report should be a maximum of 20%.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Students gain the ability to identify, analyze and solve real world engineering problems. Students produce solutions to complex engineering problems within the scope of a project.
- Students learn current knowledge, technologies and methods by conducting a comprehensive literature review on the project topic.
- Students develop project management skills such as project planning, project scheduling and resource management.
- Students design and develop a system, process or product in accordance with the problem they have identified. In this process, they use their creative thinking and innovative solutions skills.
- Students effectively represent the results of the project through written reports and oral presentations. Students learn to present project processes and findings clearly and concisely.
- Students study effectively in teams and develop interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Students learn to consider ethical principles in engineering projects. Students learn to act with a sense of professional responsibility and produce practical and sustainable solutions.
- Students are open to learning new knowledge and skills during their projects and develop the habit of self-learning.
