Course Objective

The aim of this course is to comprehend the historical development, spatial organization and cultural context of traditional Turkish housing, to analyze materials and construction techniques, to understand regional differences and to master conservation issues. In addition, to examine the impact of traditional Turkish housing on modern architecture.

Course Content

This course covers the historical development, design principles and sociocultural context of the traditional Turkish house. The course offers a wide range of information from materials and building techniques to spatial organization, façade design and regional differences. It also provides a different perspective through field trips and student presentations. Current debates such as the impact of traditional Turkish houses on modern architecture and their preservation are also addressed within the scope of the course.
