Course Objective
To provide pre-service teachers with knowledge of self-regulation and metacognition concepts, to manage self-regulated learning processes, to create classroom environments that support self-regulated learning, and to develop self-regulating skills.
Course Content
Self-regulation and self-regulated learning processes; aim and importance of self-regulation in mathematics education; characteristics of the self-regulated learner in mathematics teaching and self-regulated learning strategies; classroom environments and teaching practices that support self-regulated learning; metacognition; self-regulation in teachers; assessment of metacognition and self-regulation skills.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Comprehend the concepts of self-regulation and metacognition and have an idea about the importance of these concepts.
- It contributes to students' self-regulated learning processes.
- Knows the characteristics of self-regulated learner in mathematics teaching and appreciates such students.
- It is valuable to guide students about the use of self-regulated learning strategies.
- Develops classroom environments and teaching practices that support self-regulated learning.
